Description
The JLC Master Geographic Q1422421 is the pink gold build of the Geographic, and that is the first thing to get straight: this reference is gold, not steel. The 39 mm case, both crowns, the dart indices and the hour and minute hands all carry a warm pink gold finish, and the applied Arabic numerals at 12, 9 and 3 are gold as well. Underneath that warmth the dial itself is a cool silvered sunray, and it is a busier surface than anything else shelved beside it: a power reserve arc at ten, a pointer date at two, a second time zone on the sub-dial at six, and a city ring curving around the lower edge. Jaeger-LeCoultre’s Geographic line has served travelers since the mid-1990s, and this silver-dial version keeps that utility wrapped in a dress-watch silhouette.
Technical Overview
- Case diameter: 39mm
- Case material: pink gold finish, two crowns
- Reference: Q1422421
- Dial: silver with city disc and second time zone display
- Crystal: sapphire
- Movement: clone Cal. 939A, automatic, 28,800 vph
- Functions: hours, minutes, central seconds, pointer date, second time zone, 24-hour day and night aperture, power reserve, city ring
A second crown at 10 o’clock turns the city ring that runs around the bottom of the dial. Whichever name stops at the marker above six sets the hour shown on the sub-dial below it, and on this one the ring is parked on the Americas: New York, Denver, Mexico, Rio de Janeiro and St Barth. The main crown at 3 o’clock moves local time on its own, so a flight takes one adjustment rather than two.
Inside the Movement
The automatic caliber drives two independent hour displays. The local time adjusts via the crown in the standard way, while the home-time display stays locked to the reference city you set. The silver dial keeps both time zones readable despite the increased information density because Jaeger-LeCoultre separated them into distinct registers rather than overlapping them. Compare the Q1422421 against the black-dial Geographic Q1428171 to see how dial color changes the visual hierarchy of those registers. Both sit in the Master Control range here, but they are not the same dial. The power reserve on this gold reference is marked POWER and graduated in fractions from 0 to 1; the steel Geographic prints RESERVE DE MARCHE and counts in hours from 10 to 40. This one also keeps applied Arabic numerals at 12, 9 and 3 where the steel references keep only the 12.
What Sets It Apart
Most dual-time watches force you to choose between readability and complexity. The Geographic solves that by giving each time zone its own dedicated display area. The silver dial amplifies clarity because the lighter background provides stronger contrast for both the primary hands and the secondary hour track. For anyone who regularly tracks two cities, the JLC Master Geographic Q1422421 removes the guesswork that comes with traditional bezel-based or offset-hand GMT designs and does it without leaving dress-watch proportions behind.
